STELLAR Classroom Observation Visit Scheduling

From Robert Young: Special Offer for STELLAR Teachers

posted Nov 1, 2016, 9:04 AM by Rachel Newkirk Cameron

Game Day with the Oregon Ducks, by Robert Young, is an insider’s look at a UO football game. Although written for kids, this book is for curious Duck fans of all ages. Rich with photos, the book is packed with details about the games at Autzen. Did you know that 2,000 people work on a game day? Or, that the band practices about ten hours for their half-time show that last 6-8 minutes? Or, that the Ducks players wear GPS units in their shoulder pads to gather important information during games? You do now, and you’ll find out much more when you read the book.

Keep the book for yourself, or add it to your classroom library. You can also make it part of your curriculum by using the Common Core-based activities (including VTS suggestions). You’ll find them under the Resource tab on Robert's website (www.realwriting.us).

But wait, it gets better. The publisher has agreed to offer TEACHERS a special promo for a limited time. If you order from their website gamedaywiththeoregonducks.com and enter the promo code TEACH on the checkout page, you’ll get 25% off the retail price.

Art Resources Available to STELLAR Teachers

posted Nov 4, 2015, 1:00 PM by Eric Tuck

We have some wonderful opportunities for engaging with the arts, in and out of classrooms.

The Lane Arts Council offers a high-quality arts education program that allows schools to request an artist for performance assemblies, after-school programs, and artist residencies. Each district has $1,000 per year to cover the artists’ travel and expenses. If you are interested in reserving an artist for your school, we encourage you to coordinate with your colleagues to maximize the number of students who will be able to participate.

If you would like to schedule an artist to visit your school, please contact Rachel Cameron atrcameron@uoregon.edu with your preferred dates and artist, and she will make the arrangements.  Visit http://lanearts.org/artists/ to see a list of participating artists.

STELLAR teachers also receive a free classroom visit to the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art.Visit http://jsma.uoregon.edu/guided-school-tours and schedule your visit as soon as possible. Contact JSMA Tour Coordinator Jo Morton at jsmatour@uoregon.edu or (541) 346-0910. Be sure to mention it’s a STELLAR visit.

Finally, the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art offers Outreach Kits containing curriculum resources, artifacts, and reproductions from the museum’s collection. The kits are available for three-week loans for no charge. Kit topics include China, the Chinese Cultural Revolution,Japan, and Korea. Visit http://jsma.uoregon.edu/outreach-kit to request an Outreach Kit for your classroom.
